Do affiliates need to have an established website to get started?

Possibly not. While it is possible to register a non-live site, most merchants prefer to deal with affiliates that have a well-established blog/website with a large number of readers/visitors. They also want to collaborate with affiliates who have a track record of delivering high-quality content to a targeted, dedicated audience in their sector.
For instance, if the merchant sells women's jewelry and your blog/site is mostly oriented at males who enjoy grilling, for example, that affiliate program may not be a suitable fit. As a result, we strongly advise having an existing blog/website with good traffic before applying to a program. If you don't have a website but do have a large social media following, most affiliate programs will accept and enable you to post affiliate links on social media accounts that you own or administer.
